British Science Week 2026

Norfolk Amateur Radio Clib

British Science Week 2026 took place between 6–15 March. The British Science Association chose ‘Curiosity: what’s your question?‘ as the theme for 2026.

Curiosity and inquisitiveness fit perfectly with amateur radio and the RSGB Outreach Team developed the following activity to help get people involved.

  • Riding the wave – follow this worksheet to give your friends/family/community an introduction to radio waves and amateur radio

The 2025 campaign was the biggest and best yet for amateur radio and saw a wide range of groups involved, from clubs and societies, to schools and uniformed groups. RSGB British Science Week Coordinator Prof. Ian Neal, G7IGN was instrumental in the success of the campaign. You can read his report on the activity in the June 2026 edition of RadCom.

FM radio receiver kits and Morse code tutor kits

Member of 277 squadron building FM kit

The RSGB Outreach Team, together with the RSGB British Science Week Coordinator, gave away 400 FM radio receiver kits and Morse code tutor kits for school, university, Scout, Girlguiding, Cadet and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) groups to build.

The demand was strong, and the level of interest so inspiring, that the team were able to send out as many kits as the funding allowed. This was only possible thanks to the generous support of the RSGB Legacy Fund and the Radio Communications Foundation (RCF).

A special RadCom Basics will be published with all of the reports sent in from this activity and will available for everyone to read.
