Protecting the spectrum

Protecting the spectrum – are you supporting us?

The RSGB exists to protect, promote and enhance the use, understanding and enjoyment of wireless communication. We can’t do this in isolation and need all radio amateurs to play their part.

Whatever our preferred band and mode, we all make use of the spectrum. Without it there is no amateur radio. But are you relying on others to help protect it?

Why joining the RSGB helps us defend the spectrum for everyone

By being an RSGB member you are adding your voice to ours. The stronger our voice, the greater our impact.

We engage with regulatory bodies at national and international levels:

  • Ofcom, the UK communications regulator

  • IARU, the International Amateur Radio Union

  • ITU, the specialised agency of the United Nations for communications

  • CEPT, whose work includes regional allocations, usage, HAREC and T/R61-01

In addition, we:

  • Liaise with fellow national amateur radio societies

  • Attend the four-yearly ITU World Radiocommunication Conferences and pre-meetings, which sets high-level frequency allocations

  • Participate in IARU regional conferences, which includes agreeing band plans and EMC matters; and supporting the IARU central spectrum team

Isn’t it time you supported us in safeguarding the spectrum?
