Through contacts with senior officials in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and the Old Royal Naval College in Maritime Greenwich, a small group of Cray Valley Radio Society members led by Bob, M0MCV and Dave, G4BUO are organising a flagship amateur radio station in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College, along the riverside in Greenwich.

Old Royal Naval College is a must-see London landmark with a celebrated over 500-year-history. The popular visitor attraction is home to the magnificent Painted Hall, one of the finest Baroque interiors in Europe, epic art installations, fashion shows, a world-famous film and TV location. Visitors can discover Tudor archaeological finds, enjoy award-winning tours, and explore the Christopher Wren-designed buildings and beautiful grounds.

Round-the-clock operation from Greenwich will begin on Wednesday 3 May once the stations, antennas and exhibition area are set up. The stations will be on the air through to, and including, Monday 8 May (including overnight into the 9th) with take down during 9 May. Operation will be from a 6m x 12m marquee with two towers supporting antennas for 3.5MHz to 28MHz, 50MHz and 144MHz.

The stations and exhibition area will be open to the public between the hours of 10am and 5pm on 4-8 May. This will provide an opportunity for visitors to see amateur radio, perhaps for the first time, and engage and inform them of the relevance of radio communications in our lives today.

Visitors of all ages will be encouraged to pass a greetings message, and visiting radio amateurs will also be made welcome.

A special website has been created by Cray Valley Radio Society to post updates throughout the event so keep an eye on that and the CVRS Twitter profile for the latest news during the SSES.

A QSL Manager has been appointed and we have produced a special QSL card, which will be dispatched from July 2023 onward.

On 10 May the call sign will be available for individuals and clubs to use until the end of June 2023 – see GB23C Registration Details to apply.
