8 June – Building a remote station by John Warburton, G4IRN

| March 3, 2026

The presentation

John, G4IRN moved to rural Shropshire in 2020, where conservation area restrictions led him to develop a fully remote HF contest and DX station. His presentation outlines the search for a suitable site and the key technical and operational lessons gained from several years of remote operation over internet and 4G links.

About the presenter

John Warburton, G4IRN, entered amateur radio in 1979 after passing the exam and Morse test while still at school—an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for HF operating, particularly on CW. After an early career in air traffic engineering, John completed a degree in Computer Science and went on to work as a freelance IT consultant for much of his professional life. Now retired in Shropshire, he focuses on HF DXing and contesting, and will be one of the competitors at WRTC when it is hosted in the UK later this year. John is a member of RSGB, CDXC, GMDX, CW Ops, FOC, Three A’s Contest Group, Echelford Amateur Radio Society and Salop Amateur Radio Society.
