FCC Satellite Spectrum Proposals

On 16th July 2026, the FCC opened an initial call for input on ‘Unleashing Unlicensed Spectrum for Direct-to-Device’ that unfortunately includes three amateur allocations at – at 920MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.7GHz – where a new class of commercial satellites would operate.

 

Note: This follows FCC ‘authorising’ 70cm usage by AST Space Mobile for a constellation of 248 satellites.
