David Mason, G3ZPR – 20 June 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of David Mason G3ZPR.
Dave had an interest in wireless from an early age. He served two years in the RAF during National Service where he excelled in Morse code; he was selected for advanced training then posted to Hong Kong to work in signals interception.
Dave passed his RAE in 1970 and received his first full amateur radio licence in 1977.
Dave was a driving force behind the formation of Poole Radio Society in 1976. He played a very active role and encouraged many local amateurs to become involved in the Society. Dave later undertook the role of President, serving faithfully for 25 years.

His main interest throughout was operating CW on HF, using a straight key and wire aerials.
At the Society’s fiftieth anniversary celebration this year Dave was asked to cut a commemorative cake and he conveyed his thanks to the members for their valued support over the years.
His last CW transmission went out on 20 m on 25 April this year and was picked up in Europe, Scandinavia and Iceland. Dave will be greatly missed but certainly not forgotten.
