John Elsdon, G4RLS 31 August 2022

| September 20, 2022

It is with much sadness that I announce the passing of John Elsdon, G4RLS.

John became a Silent Key on 31 August aged 75 after many weeks of illness in Norwich & Norfolk hospital.

John had a lifelong interest from the age of 13 in Amateur Radio. Starting in the days of valve domestic radios when he explored the Shortwave ranges on them and then progressing onto ex-war surplus sets which he used to discover CW in the early 60’s.

John’s main interest was operating CW on HF, entering contests at home and at the Lowestoft District and PYE Radio club.

He excelled in the 80m Club Contests on CW getting into three figure contacts on many occasions to boast the club points.

CW classes were run by John at the club and he helped many members learn the code over the years.

He will be very much missed by local Radio Amateurs friends and those he made worldwide on CW.

Our condolences to his Family and friends.

Carl Langley, G3XGK.
