John Gerard, G4PKW (SK)

John Gerard, G4PKW, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 26th October 2021 at the age of 95.

Radio has been a large part of his life since the 1930s. At the end of the War at age of 19 he travelled to India with the Royal Signals as an operator; whilst there he set up a civilian wireless station VU2CV.

Those who knew him will know he was a gentle man with a great love of radio. We often talked radio, even at his great age recalling valve line-ups of civilian broadcast receivers from manufacturers long gone; his memory never ceased to amaze.

As he got older and his eyesight failed, members of Bromsgrove and District Amateur Radio Club helped him continue his hobby throughout, even through his transition to near total blindness, and I thank them for the kindness.

On his behalf I would like to say a final 73s and 88s to amateurs around the world.

Keith Gerard, GM4TPX (John’s son)
