Bert Gladwin, G3FVO (SK), back in his service days

Bertie Gladwin, G3FVO, died peacefully on the 14th of August 2020 following a short illness. He was a generous person who had time for everyone, and everyone had time for him. He always brought a smile into the room and had a good sense of fun.

Bertie volunteered for duties in December 1940 and had been active on the Morse key ever since – almost a full eighty years. After leaving the RAF he held various airborne wireless operator posts: Berlin airlift, Sabena Airlines and Jersey Airlines. He worked for the diplomatic wireless service as a radio operator and had tours of duty at many embassies around the world.

In retirement, his interest in radio never dimmed. He was forever experimenting with different antenna designs in the hope of getting just that bit further.

Our thoughts are with his wife, Wendy and daughter, Mich.
