Keynote presentation

Four years ago, IARU President Tim Ellam, VE6SH/G4HUA shared his thoughts on the changes and challenges to the amateur service and what the future held for amateur radio.

On Saturday 10 October 2026, Tim will return to the RSGB Convention to revisit those points and offer an updated perspective on the future of amateur radio.

His presentation will examine the forces shaping the future of amateur radio from an international perspective. It will explore spectrum protection and coexistence, the impact of emerging technologies, innovation in digital and space-based communications, and the continuing value of amateur radio as a platform for technical experimentation, education, and public service.

The presentation will also consider how national societies, regulators, and volunteers can work together to encourage innovation, attract a new generation of radio amateurs, and demonstrate the unique societal value of the amateur radio services.

Tim is currently serving his fourth term as IARU President and the RSGB is delighted to welcome him back as the keynote speaker.

After-dinner speaker

Adrian Ciuperca, KO8SCA is this year’s after-dinner speaker. He is well-known for his DXpedition and Morse skills and will share his viewpoint that “A DXpedition is NOT a vacation!”.

Adrian was first licensed as an amateur radio operator in 1990. He is a recent inductee into the CQ DX Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Yasme Excellence Award. An accomplished DXer, he has earned DXCC with 323 confirmed entities and is also an active and successful contester. He has competed in the World Radiosport Team Championships (WRTC) in 2018, 2023 and most recently WRTC 2026.

Adrian’s passion for amateur radio began with a fascination for technology and the spirit of adventure embodied by DXpeditions. Today, that same enthusiasm continues to take him to remote corners of the world, combining international travel with his dedication to amateur radio.

The Gala Dinner takes place on the Saturday evening and tickets can be purchased at the same time as your main ticket.
