The Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys is having a “What is my STEM future” conference on 21 January for Canterbury school pupils aged between 10 and 13.

The event aims to give students a sense of what Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) is, and to help them plan for their futures. The school already has an active amateur radio club, which operates as G3OSL.

The programme for the STEM conference includes four workshops, which are all being run by sixth form students from Simon Langton school. One of the sessions will be on amateur radio and Morse, and will include an opportunity for students to operate G3OSL under supervision. Listen out on Wednesday 21 January G3OSL between 10.00 and 13.00 when students will be active using CW on the 20m and 40m bands.

Other topics in the programme include a talk by Becky Kalam on “What is STEM?” in relation to her role at Playground Games, a video games company.

Several sixth form students at the school are currently studying for their Foundation exam, which they hope to take before the end of January.
