RSGB Board – February key messages

| March 3, 2026

Following its meeting in February 2026, the RSGB Board has shared these key messages:

  • Board noted progress with preparations for the AGM which will be held on 18 April. Patrick Wood, 2E0IFB and Graham Smith, G4NMD had been recommended for endorsement by the Society’s Nominations Committee and that recommendation had been accepted by the Board. Both candidates had undertaken a video interview which RSGB members are encouraged to view. In addition to the two nominated Director vacancies there were two elected Director vacancies for which there were three candidates. Board noted that a vote would be held, and details would be made available in the April RadCom
  • Board was told that Ofcom was concerned about out-of-band activity or operating contrary to licence conditions in the 5MHz band. UK amateur use of frequencies at 5MHz is only available on a secondary basis and only to holders of a UK Full amateur radio licence. Foundation and Intermediate licence holders are not allowed to operate on 5MHz. Board noted that stations operating in breach of their licence conditions might expect to hear from Ofcom as a result of their monitoring. Sustained inappropriate use of this band might put the band under threat
  • Board noted with approval the continued growth of the RSGB Brickworks scheme. The scheme is designed to help new licensees to appreciate the wide range of activities possible within the hobby. Awards are available as activities are completed. Brickworks is part of a range of activities being promoted by the Society under one of its strategic priority – growing amateur radio
  • The Society has been asked to provide a demonstration station at the Wings Jamboree – this event for young people attracts a large number of attendees over five days in August. The approach was seen as a good opportunity to expose more young people to the hobby and work was ongoing to set out how this would be done
