VHF/UHF UKAC Scoring System

| August 25, 2017

For a number of years, there has been a high degree of debate around what scoring system should be used for the RSGB VHF/UHF UK Activity contests. As a consequence of this discussion, the RSGB President, Nick Henwood, G3RWF, convened a group of experienced contesters representative of the major viewpoints held. This group has worked with the VHF Contest Committee to propose a set of options for scoring systems for the UKAC contests which were to be voted on by RSGB members active in VHF Contests.

Two options were proposed:

  • B3 – a variant of the current scheme with reduced overall bonus scores and some additional high bonus squares
  • Nordic – where the first contact with every new square attracts a bonus of 500 points

That vote has now closed, and from 287 votes, the final result was:

  • 77% – Nordic
  • 23% – B3

This is a very clear result and the Nordic scoring system will be implemented for the 2018 series of UKAC events from 6m through to 23cm.

In the responses to this survey about UKAC scoring, we received many comments and questions on other topics. These are being used to create a second consultation on all other aspects of VHF-UHF-SHF Contest rules, which will follow shortly.

There is also an FAQ available here which includes a little more detail about the survey.

If you have any queries regarding this, please contact the VHF Contest Committee Chair, Andy Cook, G4PIQ at vhfcc.chair@rsgb.org.uk
