The Great Northern Hamfest takes place today, 23 September, at the Barnsley Metrodome, Queens Road, Barnsley. The post code for those with a satnav is S71 1AN. Follow the large brown Metrodome signs from the A roads into town. There will be trade stands, special interest groups and clubs, disabled facilities, family attractions, prize draw, free parking and extensive catering facilities including a licensed bar and restaurant. The National Hamfest, brought to you by the RSGB in association with the Lincoln Short Wave Club, takes place on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 September in the George Stephenson Pavilion, Newark and Nottinghamshire Showground, Lincoln Road, Winthorpe, Newark NG24 2NY. The venue is close to the junction of the A1, A46 and A17. There will be a wide variety of trade stands as well as a Bring & Buy and RSGB bookstand inside the main hall. Outside will be the car boot sale area. Several RSGB Committees will be represented, including the RSGB QSL Bureau, and there will also be a number of HQ staff present.

Advance notice now for a free to attend talk by the IET on the future of the radio spectrum. It takes place in Bromley on 3 October. The use of the radio spectrum is continuously evolving with new standards, services and the ever higher number of devices and users. What this all means to spectrum management and interference problems will be discussed by Richard Holmes. The lecture takes place at 10am for a 10.30am start at Bromley Central Library, High Street, Bromley BR1 1RS. There is no need to pre- register for this event.
