Worries about wireless power transfer

| November 2, 2018

The RSGB, in common with the whole of the International Amateur Radio Union, IARU, has serious concerns about wireless power transmission. Studies of its impact in the residential environment suggest that there are likely to be harmful levels of harmonic interference to existing radio services such as amateur and broadcast. RSGB EMC Chair Dr Martin Sach, G8KDF joined the IARU team at the recent CISPR standards organisation meeting in Korea to represent our concerns. Work is also underway in CEPT and ITU, where IARU is representing the concerns of the amateur service.  As yet there is no reconciliation of the positions of the wireless power transfer device manufacturers and the radio services likely to be affected. Many of the issues are set out in a consultation document from CEPT that can be found at tinyurl.com/GB2RS-0411A
