Sid May, ET3SID / AB30Z / G4CTQ, 25 September 2012
Sid T May, ET3SID, was the chairman of the Ethiopian Amateur Radio Society. He was an electrical engineer and in 1993 set up the first Ham radio club of Ethiopia. The club station ET3AA was enjoyed by many different elementary schools in different times before it was moved to its ideal location, Addis Ababa University, Institute of Technology. Sid has been giving amateur radio courses to Ethiopian students for more than 15 years. He administered the RSGB / ARRL examination many times had more than 120 students pass the examination.
Sid has also made countless contributions to the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, especially to the Department of Electrical Engineering. He is survived by hundreds of ambitious radio hams & engineers who will forever be inspired by his humbleness and vision.
Sid was having health problems and was expecting to return to UK shortly on a doctor’s appointment. He spent his final day at ET3AA as usual and it all happened later at night when he returned to his house. He was a teacher, a mentor and a father to all of us at ET3AA. We feel very saddened about the news and extend our condolences to his family and wish for his soul to rest in peace.
