Peter Valentine, G0NQZ

| October 31, 2025

The RSGB wishes to record, with sadness, the passing of GB2RS newsreader Peter Valentine, G0NQZ at the grand age of 101.

Age was no barrier to Peter. At 96, he walked 96 miles for his local hospital charity and he was still broadcasting GB2RS from Eastbourne in his 100th year. He was described by a fellow
newsreader as a true ambassador for amateur radio. Peter had a wonderfully distinctive voice on the air and for many years he also read a talking newspaper for the blind.

Having served in the King’s Royal Rifle Corps at the start of the Second World War, Peter became a signaller in field artillery. After the war, he joined the Forces Broadcasting Service, writing scripts and presenting programmes.

Peter obtained his B-licence in 1989 and, after two attempts, passed the Morse test and received his A-licence in 1990. He read the RSGB News for five years and his excellent diction was commented upon regularly.

Our thoughts are with Peter’s widow Heather and family.

The 2m FM GB2RS broadcast will continue in the Eastbourne area, courtesy of Vince,
G1FBH and Paul, M0LRE.
