Greg Munton, G4XMS, 23rd July 2020
Greg Munton, G4XMS died peacefully at his home in Maidstone, England on the 23rd of July 2020.
Greg had a lifelong love of amateur radio, maintaining regular skeds with friends in Finland (OH2VZ) and North America (K2LBJ) for decades. Greg worked as an ophthalmic surgeon and performed several thousand operations that restored sight and/or improved quality of life for many. His first amateur radio licence, issued in 1983, was G1EYE, before being upgraded to G4XMS in 1984. He enjoyed on-air rag chewing (occasionally working digimodes, SSTV, and PSK-31), and antenna building; he was usually to be heard working off a 48 foot compact 7-element log periodic of his own construction. In addition to his QTH in Maidstone, he sometimes worked from Le Crotoy, France. In retirement, he worked as chairman for the Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) and enjoyed his lifelong interests in music, amateur radio and astrophotography. He leaves a wife, four children, and two grandchildren.
Tribute by Robert Froud, 2E0BAI.
