Events happening near you
We encouraged radio amateurs to get involved and collated a list of great activities that they put on around the country as part of BSW 2025.
Note: A “sked” refers to a pre-arranged radio contact, meaning a scheduled time to communicate with another radio operator where individuals plan specific times to connect with each other on a particular frequency. Where an event includes skeds, details are noted below.
Altrincham Grammar School for Girls
The school held an event which they hope will lead to a school radio club and some new licence holders too. They operated on 20m.
This event was for school students only and was not open to the public.
Bishop Auckland Radio Amateurs’ Club – BARAC (G4TTF)
The club worked with a range of schools in the Bishop Auckland area and covered FT8 and Morse code (including building Snail Morse Keys). Certificates were presented acknowledging the achievements of the students.
This event was for school students only and was not open to the public.
Crowthorne and Wokingham Men’s Shed
Working as G8EYM they intended to operate during BSW and sought skeds, especially with other Men’s Sheds. They originally planned to be active on Friday 14 March for BSW and to operate via 10W SSB on the HF Bands’ QRP Centres of Activity, from the NMI Crowthorne & Wokingham Without Men’s Shed.
If you’d like to contact them about arranging future skeds contact info@nmishedww.co.uk
Norfolk Amateur Radio Club (NARC)
NARC took over a classroom in the Skinner Centre and demonstrated active radio stations on all modes from HF to UHF. Members also demonstrated a simple five component crystal set, APRS satellite, Web SDR technology, hobby electronics, and electromagnetic fields. There were hands-on opportunities for people to build their own circuits and a CW area where young people had the opportunity to send and receive their names or a message in Morse code and earn a signed certificate with the code on the back.
South Derbyshire and Ashby Woulds Amateur Radio Group (G0SRC)
The club held an open weekend on 15/16 March and showed radio through the ages with a selection of classic sets on show. All digital modes, SSTV, lots of rag chewing and working of the world via CW as well as voice using a variety of aerials. Visitors were welcome to operate under supervision. The event also had home made equipment and kit building. Visitors were introduced to training, exams and how to obtain your licence for those interested. Skeds via G0SRC on QRZ.com
UTC South Durham Radio Club (M1UTC)
Working as a team the club followed the theme of “Change and Adapt” by using Data Modes, DSTAR and Internet-enabled repeaters (Echolink and EFN) to answer the question: how many contacts can we log and how far can we reach using new modes?

This event was for school students only and was not open to the public.
St Peter-In-Thanet CE Junior School

This event was for school students only and was not open to the public.
