What amateur radio events took place for BSW 2025?

We encouraged radio amateurs to get involved and below is a list of the great activities that were organised around the country.

Altrincham Grammar School for Girls

The school held an event with the hope it would lead to a school radio club and some new licence holders. They operated on 20m. This event was for school students only.

Bishop Auckland Radio Amateurs’ Club – BARAC (G4TTF)

The club worked with a range of schools in the Bishop Auckland area and covered FT8 and Morse code (including building Snail Morse Keys). Certificates were presented acknowledging the achievements of the students. This event was for school students only.

Crowthorne and Wokingham Men’s Shed

Norman, G8EYM planned an amateur radio open day at the NMI Crowthorne & Wokingham Without Men’s Shed. They were joined by members of Bracknell Amateur Radio Club. Some members of the Men’s Shed have gone on to take their Foundation licence exam!

Norfolk Amateur Radio Club (NARC)

Norfolk Amateur Radio Club (NARC) put on a comprehensive display of communications technology at the City of Norwich School’s ‘Super Science Saturday’ display.

South Derbyshire and Ashby Woulds Amateur Radio Group (G0SRC)

The club held an open weekend on 15/16 March and showed radio through the ages with a selection of classic sets on show.

UTC South Durham Radio Club (M1UTC)

Working as a team the club followed the theme of “Change and Adapt” by using Data Modes, DSTAR and Internet-enabled repeaters (Echolink and EFN) to answer the question, How many contacts can we log and how far can we reach using new modes?” This event was for school students only.

St Peter-In-Thanet CE Junior School

The school ran a YOTA-style activity and followed the RSGB entry in the BSW packs from the British Science Association by collecting weather data from the contacts the children made. This event was for school students only.

Wick High School

The school followed the RSGB activity selected by the British Science Association for BSW by collecting weather data from the contacts the students made. This event was for school students only.

FM radio receiver kits – a partnership between the RSGB Outreach Team and the Radio Communications Foundation

In a fantastic development for 2025, the RSGB Outreach team partnered with the Radio Communications Foundation to provide FM radio receiver kits for the following 15 school, university, scout and youth groups to build.
