Special Events News – 25 August 2013
This weekend, on the 25th and 26th, the Radio Society of Harrow will be demonstrating the hobby at Harrow in Leaf from the Harrow Museum, HA2 6PX, using the callsign GX3EFX. All visitors are welcome.
During month of August, GB1LCT will be on air from Leyland in Lancashire. The station is a tribute to the men and women of Leyland who built and operated the Centurion tanks. Operators Mark, G1PIE, Phil, M6SRZ and Pam, 2E1HQY will be transmitting from the side of the Centurion tank. More information about the station is on QRZ.com.
GB4AUK will be on the air from the Isle of Wight supporting Age UK from the grounds of Wolverton Manor, Shorwell on 31 August and 1 September. Operated by Brickfields Amateur Radio Society, contacts will earn a point for The Isle of Wight County Award and Castles & Stately Homes on the Air. The WAS location is WAB SZ48 and the IOTA reference is EU-120.
On 31 August and 1 September, the Radio club of Binche will activate ON4WAR to commemorate the sacrifice of the Belgian Resistance in WWII and especially those of the Refuge B 40 in Waudrez, Belgium. Operation will be 9am to 6pm on the 31st and 9am and 3pm on the 1st. QSL via ON7RY either direct or via the bureau. Full information can be found at www.on7ry.be.
The Isle of Man Amateur Radio Society will again be running the special event station GB4JDF in aid of the Joey Dunlop Foundation on 25 August. They will be on air from 9am until 6pm operating voice and PSK mode. A special one off QSL card is available. See QRZ.com for details.
