RSGB Youth Activities and Engagement Champion

| August 22, 2025

Over the past 12 months, the RSGB has announced the appointment of four Champions to work with young people and encourage their participation in amateur radio and STEM activities:

  • Chris Aitken, MM0WIC – RSGB Youth Chair and School Youth Champion
  • Rhys Williams, M0WGY/AJ6XD – RSGB University Youth Champion
  • Sam McCutchion, M7UEL – RSGB Youth Champion for Scouts, Cadets and Guides
  • Ian Stevenson, G3YNU – RSGB STEM Champion

However, there is still room for one more! These four Champions are focused primarily on introducing young people to amateur radio, so the RSGB is now looking to appoint someone to keep young people involved after they have obtained their Foundation licence.

Could this be you?

Do you have the enthusiasm and dedication to engage with young people and support them on their amateur radio journey?

We’re looking for a Youth Champion who can:

  • Lead youth-focused activities
  • Create resources for young Foundation licence holders
  • Inspire young people to explore new aspects of amateur radio

You will work collaboratively with the existing Youth Champions, RSGB Board Liaison Ben Lloyd, GW4BML and the RSGB Outreach Team.

Your Youth Champion responsibilities will include:

  • Promoting, supporting and participating in YOTA Month (Youngsters on the Air) every December
  • Ensuring RSGB representation at the annual IARU YOTA Summer Camp
  • Supporting the development of a youth team
  • Facilitating youth engagement through nets/skeds
  • Working with the other Youth Champions and the RSGB Awards Manager to create a resource bank of activities for young licensees to try

To fill this role well and be part of the team, you’ll need to be:

  • Proactive, enthusiastic and innovative
  • Skilled at managing your time independently
  • A strong leader and mentor for young people
  • Passionate about growing youth involvement in amateur radio

If this is you, we’d love to hear from you!
