My amateur radio inspiration by Carl, G8UGJ/G0TQM

A number of childhood experiences have stuck with me and inspired me to take up the hobby. I have a memory of rummaging through a box of Morse keys in a tent with my Dad, which I think may have been at a Drayton Manor Park Radio Rally. I also used to watch The Forest Rangers on TV and they had a fort in the woods. I remember that they had a walkie-talkie with the call XMY556A, and the ‘a’ stood for apple.

I later went to the University of Birmingham and met members of the Radio Society (RadCo) during Fresher’s week. One of the members, Graham, G8HTH then turned the RadSoc door into a chalkboard and helped me and G4SAN to study and get our licences. The rest, as they say, is history.
