YOTA Czechia 2024 – Day 5
Today, we had a full day of lectures and workshops. Last night I stayed up until about 4am working the Americas, so hauling myself out of bed was a bit of a challenge. One thing I’m starting to realise about these camps is the physical endurance required!
The first lecture was about emergency communications in critical situations. This is something I find very attractive about amateur radio: the fact that we don’t have to rely on a trillion dollar infrastructure! Sometimes I feel a bit lost without my phone, so it’s nice to know we’re getting the skills to communicate effectively.
Our second lecture was about DXpeditions, given by the Mediterraneano DX club. Travelling to work a rare DX station sounds like a lot of fun and it’s something I’d love to try some day.
Finally, we were shown how balloons can be used to send transmitters to the upper atmosphere. We even got to launch a balloon that evening!
