RSGB Board – February 2024 meeting key messages
Following its meeting in February 2024, the RSGB Board has shared these key messages from that meeting:
- Ofcom licence changes: The Board considered the implementation of the licence changes arising from the Ofcom consultation. Much extra work was needed to implement the changes in repeater and beacon licensing, but more of the process was now under the Society’s control. The RSGB National Radio Centre (NRC) had started to implement the new facility to allow visitors to operate GB3RS at the NRC. Some issues with contesting had also arisen and were being addressed. The Board very much welcomed these new relaxations and looked forward to seeing the radio amateur community making the greatest use of them
- Strategic priorities: The Board considered the outcome of the Growth workshop. Six themes had been identified: Practical outreach; Getting started; Skills and career development; Segmentation of audiences; Positive support and encouragement; and Re-imagination. Theme groups had been established and any RSGB member interested in helping with this work was encouraged to offer to help. People with project management skills would be particularly welcome. Offers could be sent to strategy@rsgb.org.uk The Board welcomed the work done to date and would monitor it on each month
- National Hamfest: The decision of the National Hamfest organisers to run the event again in 2024 was welcomed. Work would now begin to determine how the Society could be represented
