RSGB NRC QO-100 update
For some time, the RSGB National Radio Centre has been using the narrow band (SSB, CW) segment of the geostationary QO-100 satellite to make demonstration QSOs to visitors. This has proved particularly popular not only for making reliable QSOs throughout its extensive communication footprint but also from a STEM perspective in giving a practical demonstration of the speed of electromagnetic (radio) waves.
In the not-too-distant future, it is hoped to add a new display showing the real-time decoding of amateur TV signals from the wide band segment.
A proof of concepts was undertaken recently to test the newly installed 85cm dish and receive system. Justin, G8YTZ set up the test system using his own equipment.
