YOTA Croatia 2022 – Day 5

| August 12, 2022

What did you get up to on Day 5?

We began our journey to Zagreb in the early morning. A friendly tour guide introduced us to the city’s origin and allowed us to explore the main landmarks. Following a short break, we stumbled into Nikola Tesla’s museum, where the concepts of his first inventions were displayed. AC motor fundamentals were shown, ultimately allowing us to understand Tesla’s original thinking that led him to his ingenious inventions.

Shortly after wandering about the museum and seeing more of the interesting artefacts, including a 1969 coal mine (prop), we left for the “Medvednica” summit. Participants set up a quarter wavelength vertical for 40m, a Yagi for 2m and an LFA for 6m. The various setups allowed the youngsters to activate the summit under a special callsign 9A3YOTA.

We came down the mountain in a fun cable car ride, whilst gazing upon the landscapes of Zagreb.

What was your favourite bit of the day?

The cable car ride was the highlight of the day, where we could chat with other cable cars using our handheld radios essentially creating a CCOTA (Cable Car On The Air).

What did you learn that you didn’t already know?

Some of the participants have made their first QSO and set up their first Yagi antenna.

What are you looking forward to next?

Tomorrow will be an ARDF activity and the group is looking forward to roaming about the park and locating “wabbits” built on previous days.
