RSGB seeks records of complaints about on-air behaviour

The RSGB receives complaints from time to time regarding incidences of deliberate jamming and foul or inappropriate language on the air. The Operating Advisory Service provides advice on the RSGB website about how to deal with these problems.

The Society has been trying to quantify the size of the problem and recently made a Freedom of Information request to Ofcom asking for the number of reports that had been submitted relating to the Amateur Radio Service between 1 January 2015 and 31 December 2019. Ofcom’s records logged only three identifiable reports of this type during that period.

The RSGB would like to hear from radio amateurs who have reported similar problems directly to Ofcom (not the RSGB) after following OAS’s advice during the same period of time.

The reports should only cover deliberate jamming, use of foul language, or language that would be considered a ‘hate crime’ as defined by the Crown Prosecution Service/Procurator Fiscal. It is important that you can fully document your complaint to Ofcom with dates, method of complaint (letter, email, phone call etc) and Ofcom’s response.
