Special Event News – 27 September 2015
Today, 27 September, Harlow and District ARS will be using GB0EOR to activate Epping and Ongar Railway for Railways on the Air. They will be active on the 40, 20 and 2m bands from the railway station at North Weald. Many other special event call signs will also be on the air for the same event.
The Canvey Community Archive will be hosting a History Trail day at the Bay Museum on Canvey Island today, the 27th.
Bishop Auckland Radio Amateurs Club will be active using the call GB2EVR at Eden Valley Railway today, the 27th. A licence has been granted to transmit from a moving train on the Eden Valley Line between Warcop and Appleby. Transmissions will be on the 40m band. Research has found that the first amateur radio transmission from a moving train was in 1924.
Worked All Britain are commemorating the Rugby World Cup 2015 with GB0RWC. Today, the 27th and the 28th, Sutton Coldfield ARC will operate the callsign from Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club at B76 2QA. Then on 1 and 2 October, Barry ARS, will operate from postcode CF64 5SP. On the 3rd to the 5th, the Radio Society of Harrow will operate from WD3 7ES.
GB0IOI will be on the air from 2 October for 28 days to commemorate the loss of the air ship R101 which crashed in France on its maiden flight. The airship was built at Cardington in the huge hanger no. 1 by Shorts Brothers and was launched on 4 October 1930. Sadly, it crashed in France with great loss of life. Operation will be from the Air Cadet unit at Shortstown, MK42 0UR and run by Bedford and District ARC.
