Talk to Tim Peak in Space
This Friday is the deadline for schools to apply to talk to Astronaut Tim Peake whilst he is in orbit in the International Space Station. The UK Space Agency, with the assistance of ARISS, AMSAT-UK and the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB), has a limited number of opportunities for schools across the whole of the United Kingdom to speak to Tim via amateur radio.
These opportunities are enabled by the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) program and involve the use of amateur radio stations that are established in schools and which link directly to the ISS as it passes overhead, at a speed of 17,500 miles per hour. Each contact lasts approximately ten minutes
