Special Event News – 22 February 2015
Australia and New Zealand are commemorating 100 years since the landing of troops at Gallipoli in WWI. This is a significant commemorative event and amateurs in Australia will have special event callsigns in operation for most of 2015. The next ANZAC event will continue until 3rd March, which is the Darwin Amateur Radio Club using VI8ANZAC.
World Cultural Heritage site Himeji Castle, in Japan, has undergone large scale repair works for more than four years. It will be re-opened for public access on 27 March. The Himeji Amateur Radio Club will run a special event station to commemorate this event. 8N3HC or 8N3HC/3 will be on the air from 1 March to 31 May using the 160m to 70cm bands with CW, phone or digital signals. QSLs should not be sent for this station.
GB8ORE, standing for Original Radar Experiment, will be operated on 26th February from the Birth of British Radar Memorial, Northampton Road, Litchborough. There is no postal address although the nearest postcode is NN7 4SE and the map reference is NGR SP650 557. Brian, G8GMU intends to operate mainly on 40m SSB with some 2m FM operation.
