Robert Fisher, G3PWJ – October 2025

| October 23, 2025

It is with great sadness that I have to report the sudden and totally unexpected passing of Robert “Bob” Fisher, G3PWJ during the first week in October 2025. Born in 1941 he was highly respected particularly in the Midlands where his technical knowledge was legendary. He was on air until the day he died, being fortunate in enjoying fairly good health.

First licensed in 1962, he became an RSGB Regional Representative in November 1966 followed by a stint as an RSGB Council member in January 1973. He was a founder member of the Malvern Hills Repeater Group, the third on air within the UK when it started up in December 1974.

He was a founder member of the Dudley Amateur Radio Club in 1961 when he was still an SWL. He was involved with a number of Repeaters including GB3KC, GB7HC, GB7GT and GB7BJ. He was an active member of the Kidderminster Radio Club being a regular attender at meetings.

His professional career was spent entirely in the field of communications, working for the Birmingham Police, Multitone and then as a partner in Mercia Radiotelephones Ltd. His other hobbies were photography and computers, the later of which he had immense knowledge.

He was noted for giving help to others in our hobby, particular those just starting, although being Black Country he did not suffer fools gladly.

Bob will be sorely missed on the airwaves, for he was a very good man, kind to others struggling to learn about radio and computers.

73s, dear friend.

Mr Russell Luckock, G3VDX
