Professor Martin Harrison, G3USF – 13 March 2023
Professor Martin Harrison G3USF, the former chairman of the RSGB’s Propagation Studies Committee, died on Monday 13 March 2023 at his home in Keele, aged 92 years.
Martin was also IARU Region One beacon coordinator for many years and did much to encourage the development of beacons to assist day-to-day band usage and propagation study. In recognition, in 2014 he was awarded the prestigious IARU Region One Medal for services to the region.
He also compiled and maintained RSGB’s 28MHz and 50MHz beacon lists. In fact, the 28MHz list is still used and updated by the Propagation Studies Committee today. He will also be remembered for compiling the solar factual data and propagation report for GB2RS for many years.
Martin was also active in Raynet for 45 years and served as Staffs County Raynet Group Controller.
He will be much missed, not least by his wife, Wendy, his children, Andrew, David and Catherine and his six grandchildren.
After giving up the chairmanship of the Propagation Studies Committee, which he held for many years, Martin remained a corresponding member of the Committee until his death. His knowledge and wisdom will be sorely missed.
