GB3RS on air for ‘Get on the air for Christmas’ (GOTA4C)
On Wednesday 30 December the GB3RS station was active again for a second day from the NRC to support the RSGB’s GOTA4C campaign.
The RSGB NRC Coordinator Martyn, G0GMB started the day with SSB QSOs on 80m, so as to encompass the regular morning NRC NET.
Over 50 stations were logged calling in but by mid-afternoon conditions had become difficult due to changing propagation and also a contest starting.
A move was made to 2m FM to give local stations the opportunity to make a QSO.
Martyn commented “I’m acutely aware that many amateurs aren’t able to put up aerials for 80m these days in modern small gardens, so it seemed only right to put out some calls on 144.525MHz.”
Using the NRC’s TS2000 and vertically polarised 5 ele beam (the system usually used for communication via polar orbiting satellites) QSOs were made into Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and even down into London.
