Activities for all

Summits on the Air activation

These ideas can be adapted to suit all ages and abilities. Remember to make it fun by using your enthusiasm to get people involved.

  • Get participants to practise talking to each other, using either PMR446 radios or simple handhelds. Use a script to for people to follow

  • Activate a Parks on the Air (POTA) or Summits on the Air (SOTA) site as a group. This is a great activity for a ramblers’ group, as well as for Scouts, Girlguiding and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

  • Use a receiver to listen to 20m and identify the different call signs

  • Purchase and build crystal radio kits. These are readily available via eBay and are great fun to build

  • Build a Snail Morse Practice key. This kit is perfect for using in schools to help explain how CW works

We love to hear from you! Let us know how you get on by sending a summary of your activity and photos to comms@rsgb.org.uk
