RSGB Club Examinations – Terms and Conditions
These are the Terms & Conditions for RSGB examinations booked by Club Exam Secretaries.
Candidate availability
It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that they are available at the time of the booked examination. In order to be available for an examination it is also the responsibility of the candidate, in the case of an online examination, to ensure that all aspects of their computer-related functions are working correctly prior to the examination. If the candidate fails to be available for an examination, whatever the reason for that absence, they will lose the exam appointment and forfeit the fee paid.
Technology requirements – online examinations
Depending on who is supplying the computer, it is the responsibility of the First Named Invigilator to ensure the computer, desktop or laptop (no tablets, including early Surface Pro’s), with the following minimum specification:
- 2GB of RAM (4GB or more is recommended)
- An internet connection with a speed of at least 1.5Mbps (per candidate)
- Where WIFI is being used the candidate must know the password
- Windows 7+ or a Mac running Mac OS 10.10+ and Safari browser. Linux machines are not supported.
- Working webcam (two for Intermediate, Full & Direct to Full exams), microphone and speakers (headphones are optional)
Software
- Either WebEx, Zoom or Microsoft Teams will need to be installed and working
- Candidates are required to ensure that the computer has installed the TestReach Desktop App and it is working.

Instructions for RSGB exams are provided to ensure you can accommodate the exam requirement. To read these please see our FAQ page at www.rsgb.org/exam-faq
Identity
It is a requirement of all amateur radio examinations that candidates provide photographic ID. In the case of face-to-face examinations this will need to be shown to the invigilator. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that this proof is available at the time of the examination. If it is not available the exam may not proceed and will result in the loss of the appointment and the fee paid.
Venue
Other than when special arrangements have been made with the RSGB Examinations department, it is the First Named Invigilator’s responsibility to ensure no-one other than those listed on the RAS are present during any face-to-face exams. Should there be other people present they must be asked to leave – if they do not, the exam cannot proceed and will result in the loss of the appointment and the fee paid.
Face-to-face examination availability
RSGB Examinations are offered with the expectation that invigilators will be available at the booked time and date. Should this not be possible because of unavailability, technical issues or any other issues that are outside RSGB’s responsibility, we will do our best to re-book this to a mutually convenient time and date. Should this not be possible the RSGB will not issue a refund for the booking. The RSGB accepts no responsibility for any consequential loss and the limit of any liability is the cost of the examination.
Appointment changes & cancellations
Once a booking for an examination has been made and paid for it is considered final. It is up to the Exam Secretary, the First Named Invigilator and candidates to check carefully that the chosen date and details are correct. You will not be able to change your appointment unless there are exceptional circumstances. Any changes or cancellations that are agreed by the RSGB Examination Department may be subject to an £10.00 administration charge. If you are within ten days of your appointment date unfortunately we are unable to refund any monies.
Special requirements
Any candidate who may have special requirements connected to their examination should contact the RSGB Exams Department by email exams@rsgb.org.uk prior to making a booking to discuss their individual situation. Any booking made prior to a discussion with the Examinations Department may be cancelled by the RSGB if it feels it cannot accommodate the special requirements. Any such cancellations may also be subject to an £10.00 administration charge.
