YOTA Czechia 2024 – Day 1
Hello from sunny Prague!
This is the first of my daily blogs during the YOTA 2024 Summer Camp.
Today, we had a really busy first day, so let’s get straight into it.
We started off with a quick icebreaker to introduce everyone’s teams, before heading to the morning session of presentations.
The first was all about surface mount technology (SMT).
I’ve never done any SMT before, so it was really interesting to see the process behind PCB printing.
Some of the components were so small I could barely see them when picking them up on my finger!
We then had a quick talk from the Czech Amateur Radio Direction Finding team and even got to try ARDF out for ourselves in the afternoon.
I think I might try doing a bit in the UK when I get back home!
The afternoon included a Morse workshop, giving instructions on how to build a Lego set over VHF, and some shack operation.
I even managed to make a QSO with my dad, M0WQE, back home in the UK!
Finally, our action-packed day finished with the famous YOTA intercultural evening.
With over 20 countries here, there was a whole load of food and drink to choose from!
I spent most of my evening pouring everyone lovely cups of tea and offering out Jammie Dodgers.
