How long have you been an RSGB volunteer? I’ve been a volunteer as the Microwave Manager for nearly ten years.
Why did you choose to volunteer? I decided that although retired I could use my professional background to help support the microwave community and the wider amateur radio hobby. Particularly on regulatory and spectrum defence matters with Ofcom and other regulators.
What do you get out of volunteering in your role? The satisfaction of supporting and maintaining the profile of our hobby.
What would you say to people thinking about volunteering for the RSGB? It can be rewarding with a good community spirit between the various volunteers. You can play a part in furthering the goals of the hobby for the future.
Fun fact: do you prefer operating or tinkering/constructing? For me it’s about home construction and using the projects on-air. This is especially true for the higher bands for VHF/UHF/Microwave contesting.
