GB2RS Newsreader volunteers – could you join the team?

GB2RS Newsreader Pete Sobye, G0PNM with his home set-up
The RSGB news is broadcast around the UK every Sunday, by a team of volunteers who are authorised to use the special call sign GB2RS. Newsreaders use their own equipment, usually at their home location, to transmit a prepared script. The aim is for the RSGB news to be heard as widely as possible, and we are always looking to expand the number of Newsreaders, amateur bands or modes that can be accommodated in the Broadcast Schedule.
If you are interested in becoming a GB2RS Newsreader, you must be an RSGB member and hold a Full or Intermediate licence.
New volunteers might:
- Join an existing team to support a particular broadcast
- Propose a brand-new transmission
- Provide a ‘local’ service on VHF or UHF
- Transmit a ‘regional’ broadcast covering a wider area of the UK
- Become a ‘national reader’ if they have particularly well-appointed stations
We are keen to improve the number of broadcasts in Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as bolstering our existing QO-100 and Digital Voice services. We’d also like to add new stations to our national teams on 40m, 60m and 160m. Your proposals for transmissions using new modes or bands will always be considered.
