YOTA Paris 2025 – Day 3

| August 22, 2025

Rocket launches, Morse and American licences

Day three saw us continue with more workshops and activities. In the morning, we built paper rockets that were launched using an air compressor. The rockets launched surprisingly high, with Emily’s reaching 29m – the highest of the morning! This was a really fun activity and we all enjoyed learning about how to measure the rockets height and design it to ensure the best flight possible.

In the afternoon, we had a presentation by Jules, F4IEY about learning CW. It was really good advice and we all now want to get on the air as soon as we can!

Later on, we had the chance to take the American FCC exams to gain an American call sign, in addition to our British ones. Sam passed his technician and Leon passed both technician and general. Both hope to go further at today’s second exam session.

In the evening, we were back on the air, having a chance to do a POTA activation, with Sophie making several QSOs using just 5W on a portable setup. Sam also stayed up into the night and completed the 1000th QSO on 20m.
