Seven members of the Queen’s University Belfast Amateur Radio and Electronics Society (QUB_ARES) have recently passed their Foundation licence exam. The students are on a variety of courses such as biochemistry, maths, physics and electrical engineering and are studying a range of qualifications from Bachelor degrees to PhDs.

QUB_ARES President, Grace McCormick 2I0GYL, has been working hard in recent months to organise training for the group. This included a visit to the Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club in Tandragee on 19 April. Whilst there they took part in an intense training day which included having the opportunity to make supervised greetings calls on VHF. At the end of the day the students sat their exam.

QUB_ARES club members applied for funding from the Queen’s Annual Fund, which meant the exams were free for the students.

The club would like to thank the Mid Ulster Amateur Radio Club, which provided excellent help and was very supportive to the students.
