Hayle Academy gives pupils opportunity to learn about amateur radio

The Cornish Radio Amateur Club has been working with Hayle Academy on its Broad Horizons project. As part of the project students are able to select an activity that allows them to broaden and enrich their learning through extracurricular provision.
The Cornish Radio Amateur Club developed six sessions that showed students the variety and range of areas that amateur radio covers. Activities included sending their name in CW to Bill, M0NXF, John G3UCQ, Anne-Marie 2EØRUX, as well as receiving SSTV. Students also had the opportunity to build a simple Ohm’s law kit with a CW buzzer, which meant they were also able to solder for the first time. Some of the students also made some HF contacts. The Cornish Radio Amateur Club would like to thank Pia, DL7PIA for her help with the contacts and for the QSL cards that she sent to the students who made contact with her.
