Alan Burnett, G0IFC – 24 January 2025

| February 5, 2025

A founder member of the Tiverton Amateur Radio Club, Alan G0IFC became Silent Key on 24 January 2025 at the age of 77.

Alan was passionate about Amateur Radio for almost 40 years and, until recently, was licence-holder of the Tiverton club’s call sign G4TSW.

As Chairman of the club for many years, he set a high standard which he expected club members to match, particularly when it came to keeping the grass cut to  “Bowling-Green standards” – a long-standing joke amongst the members.

Alan’s favourite band was always Six Metres, and he was a member of the UK Six Metre Group for many years, regularly entering 50MHz contests, either from his home QTH or from the G4TSW site with other club members.

He was an SSB operator through-and-through, and gently referred to CW as “Monkey-Chatter” and the digital modes in less polite terms.

However, when the Tiverton club G4TSW won the 70MHz CW contest in 2013, our members thought it only right that Alan should step forward to be presented with the “G3JYP Cup” for this CW contest, of which he was immensely proud.

Alan will be greatly missed by his wife Carol and son Nick 2E0IFC, and the members of the Tiverton club.
