Dave Hannan, G1JVF (SK)

Dave Hannan, G1JVF, passed away in November 2021, following a mercifully short illness with cancer. He had been a radio amateur since the early 1980s, starting out on Citizen’s Band (known as ‘Mountainman’), before gaining his ham licence.

Dave was a mechanical engineer and electrician, spending most of his working life at British Airways, as well as serving 12 years in the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserves, under REME, the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, where he gained the nickname ‘Crasher’, in reference to the number of military vehicles he damaged!

As well as amateur radio, he was a keen rambler who loved real ale, and a lifelong volunteer with his fingers in many pies: he regularly joined Mountain Bothy Association ‘Working Parties’, helping to maintain huts and cottages in the wild for walkers to rest their heads, and was often travelling around the country to work at CAMRA beer festivals. A few weeks before he passed, he was made an Honorary Life Member of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, in recognition of 45 years service with the team.

Dave leaves behind his daughter, Katie, his brother Paul, and his close friend and mother to his child, Karen.

His funeral will take place on 21 December 2021 at 10am, in Stockport Crematorium’s Rowan Chapel, and can also be watched online at https://www.wesleymedia.co.uk/webcast-view (PIN: 492-6600) for those who cannot make it in person. Video will be available to watch back for 14 days after the event.
