Harvey Fletcher, G8HQ

| July 9, 2013

I’m writing to let you know of the death of my father at the age of 98.

Harvey Fletcher was a founder member of amateur radio in the Darlington area in the 1930’s with G8HQ. He built all his own kit and transmitted round the world on 10W! I have all his QSL cards and contact logs as well. He became a radio and ciphers specialist during the War, maintaining TypeX machines, and ran radio transmitter stations in Cyprus and Egypt (El Hagg), setting up a 12 channel broadcast transmitter, ahead of Marconi (sic), although he was never active again after the war.
