RSGB August Board meeting
The RSGB Board met on 19 August and the key messages from that meeting are below:
- Co-option of Ben Lloyd GW4BML. The Board noted that Ben had received a significant number of votes in the 2023 Board elections and that he would bring a fresh perspective to the Board as someone licenced relatively recently and who is a very active radio amateur in Wales
- Ofcom Consultation – many hundreds of responses had been received but it was important that as many responses as possible were received by Ofcom. The Society would continue to use its communications channels to encourage this. The formal response of the Society was being prepared
- Finances – the actual deficit for the six months ended 30 June 2023 was less than the budget deficit and the Hon Treasurer Chris Wood, GD6TWF anticipated that the RSGB would still be ahead of budget at 31 December 2023. The Board noted that the deficit had arisen in part because two years ago the Board had taken a conscious decision to not raise subscriptions when it might have done because it had substantial cash balances and so this was seen as a way of returning value to the members. In the October 2023 RadCom the Society will publish summary results for the six months ended 30 June 2023 with a commentary. The Hon Treasurer’s view was that the Society had taken action already to work towards reducing the deficit in 2024 compared to 2023 as highlighted in a recent forecast to June 2024. The 2024 and 2025 budget process is about to commence and this is the next step in understanding the future finances of the Society
- Electronic RadCom – the Board received a progress report from General Manager Steve Thomas, M1ACB. Progress was good and it was hoped to provide more details and a start date within the next few months
The proceedings from this meeting will be published in due course.
