Special Event News – 18 October 2015
MX0PHX will be on air today, the 18th, from the October Steam Party at Draycott-in-the Clay, Staffordshire. Subject to conditions, they will be operating on 40m and 2m for much of the day.
JOTA stations on the air today include GB2COS from the Cestrian Scout Group HQ at Vicars Cross, Chester CH3 5LP and GB5HDS, run by Harlow and District ARS for Harlow District Scouts from their club house. GB0PSG will be active for the 3rd Prestatyn Scout Group from the Jubilee Community Centre, Prestatyn and Thurrock Acorns ARC is supporting two stations for JOTA; GB1TDS in Grays and GB2TDS in Corringham.
Gloucester Scouts will be using GB1GLO from the Murray Hall headquarters in Tuffley, with the station provided by members of Gloucestershire County RAYNET.
GB0RWC will be on the air for the Rugby World Cup on the 21st to 23rd of October with Leicester Radio Society, at postcode LE3 9QJ. Then it will be on the air on the 24th and 25th with Sidmouth ARS at Shute Farm, Fluxton, Devon EX11 1RL.
MX0YHA will commemorate the start of Greenwich Mean Time on the 24th and 25th of October from Mount St Bernard Abbey in Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire. The nominated frequency will be around 7.175MHz, with some activity on 2m and 20m as conditions permit. Details are at www.yharg.org.uk
On the 20th of October MX0YHA will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the publication of Return of the King, the final part of Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Operation will be from Skipton, North Yorkshire, WAB SD95, and near Nottingham, WAB SK53. Contacts with MX0YHA qualify for the Robin Hood Award. The nominated frequency is 7.175MHz or nearby, with a possible QSY to 20m in the early afternoon. Everyone is welcome to join in.
