Special Events News – 1 June 2014
Today, 1 June, the radio club of Binche will be on the air with ON44WAR from Belgium. The radio station will be located near the museum dedicated to the Belgian Resistance of World War Two and close to Hitler’s bunker. Radio transmissions will be made in phone as well in CW using vintage radio sets on the 40m band. QSL via ON7RY.
The Duxford Radio Society, based at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire, will be operating GB2IWM on 6 June to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D-Day. They will be operating on most HF bands using mainly military radios from 0900 to 1700UTC. Visitors are welcome.
Other stations on the air to commemorate D-Day include HMS Belfast that will be active until 30 June as GB70DDAY. On 6 June, HMS Belfast will make a special memorial contact with the GB2IWM station at IWM Duxford. GB70DDL will be on the air from 1 to 28 June. The station will be operated by Riverway ARS in conjunction with the Stafford and Rugeley Sea Cadets from the Sea Cadet HQ in Stafford. The station will operate on all HF bands using SSB, CW, PSK and other digital modes.
Riverway ARS will also be operating portable from four Royal Observer Corps Nuclear Bunkers until 9 June. GB1SNB from Shenstone, GB6GNB from Gonsall, from Rugeley and GB4SNB from Standon. See QRZ.com for more information.
