Special Events News – 7 July 2013
For the rest of the year, British Railways ARS will be marking the 45th anniversary of the end of steam on the British rail network in August 1968. This will be taking place from near Preston run by Mark Procter, G1PIE using the callsign GX4LMR. A special QSL card has been produced for this event. The QSL route is via the RSGB bureau or direct to the BRARS QSL manager Pam, 2E1HQY QTHR. Details on the web at www.brars.info.
As part of their ongoing centenary celebrations, Northampton Radio Club has organised a special station event on 11 July to operate from the top of National Lift Tower in Northampton using the callsign GB0WFX. The Grade II listed tower is 127.45m tall and was opened by Queen Elizabeth in 1982. The club received special permission to operate at the top of the tower and are expecting more than a few good contacts! They plan to operate on 2m and 70cm from 6pm, if anyone would like to work the club from such an unusual location and join in their celebration. Hopefully the weather will be kind to those that are brave enough to go up the tower.
