Today, the 28 July, from 10am to 5pm, Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay is holding an event celebrating the history of Flat Holm Island located in the Bristol Channel. Barry Amateur Radio Society is taking part to mark the first radio transmission across open water in 1897 by Marconi from Lavernock Point in South Wales to Flatholm. Members of the Society are demonstrating amateur radio and providing a chance for children to send their name in Morse code. The event is the foyer of the Centre and is free of charge.

Carmarthen Amateur Radio Society will be holding four regular nets this coming week. The multi-mode digital net on XLX490 D will take place on Tuesday starting at 8pm. There will be a 70cm FM net on GB3CM on Wednesday starting at 7.30pm. On Thursday there will be a 2m FM net on GB3FG starting at 8pm, assuming the repeater is available. If it is not, then XLX490D is the fallback. Chepstow and District Amateur Radio Society meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month in the upstairs room at Chepstow Athletic Club, NP16 5JT, from 7.30pm. The Society welcomes both licensed and unlicensed visitors and its membership includes people of all ages who have a variety of interests in radio. The Society’s callsign, which has been linked to Chepstow for many years, is GW4LWZ. gw4lwz.co.uk

Cwmbran and District Amateur Radio Society has a club night every Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm at Henllys Village Hall, NP44 6JZ. New and old members are always welcome. The Society has a fully-equipped shack for member use which also houses the GB3YA repeater, with an Echolink connection via GB3YA-R. Both are owned and maintained by the club. Why not join the Monday evening net on 145.712.5MHz, CTCSS 94.8, with a 600kHz split, from 7.30pm. The Society will be active with the callsign GB0FL, between the 24 and 26 August, at the Fourteen Locks Canal Centre during the British Inland Waterways on the Air event. Highfields Amateur Radio Club meets at Rhiwbina Recreation Club, Lon Y Dail, Cardiff, CF14 6EA at 7pm every Tuesday. The Club has access for disabled visitors. There are nets on GB3WB from 9.30pm to 10.30pm most nights of the week. On Mondays there is a Wires-X net in the Highfields room, 05993. Access is also possible in Cardiff via gateways on 431.075MHz and 431.1875MHz. On Wednesdays there are nets on 145.525MHz FM from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. On Fridays, from 7pm, there is a net on the MB7IEC Allstar node 59948 and via Echolink MB7IEC-L.
